HW Thursday, September 29th

With your groups mates in class today, you came up with a working definition of the American dream and your thesis to anser the project EQ. You are to use the graphic oraganizer to list the evidence and critical thinking skills to answer the EQ. Your rough draft conclusion will be due tomorrow at the end of class. You will need to turn in your graphic organizer AND a copy of your group's conclusion (in which you coopertively worked on). Your conclusion needs to be typed, 12 point font, New Times Roman.

HW Tuesday, September 27th

Now that you have an aresenal of information from your annotated articles, you need to organize your research. Based on your articles and summaries, organize your research into an outline format that covers all of the Background sub categories AND the immigrants' experience. Every fact needs to be fragments (don't write in complete sentences) and each fact needs to be textnoted. You are responsible for your individual outline and AWCP PLUS your group outline and AWCP ( you will "mesh" your outline and AWCP to create a master one for the group). This will be due on Thursday. 500 project points!!!

HW Monday, September 26

You are to come to class tomorrow with:
(1) TWO printed articles pertaining to your assigned topic/theme for the research
(2) Your printed articles should be annotated- written/highlighted ALL OVER
(3) TWO summaries (5-6 sentences) for each of your article- 1 summary write up per article

This assignment is worth 200 PROJECT POINTS! 40% of your grade in this class is project points so you want to do a great job on this assignment. Tomorrow in class you will have time to work with your group mates for the next phase of this BIG ASSIGNMENT.

Study for you SAT Vocab test. You are to write senteces for your newest SAT words: winsome, innuendo, debunk and inclination. Be sure you not only understand the meaning of the words but also what part of speech the word is. You will have a chance to revisit TWO sentences from SAT Quiz #1.

In class, you were assigned a "section" from the short story we read out loud in class. Below are the different sections you were assigned:
Group A: 171- end of second paragraph on 172
Group B: 172-3rd paragraph to end of 1st paragraph on 174
Group C: 174 start of 2nd paragraph to end of 4th paragraph on 175
Group D: 175 paragraph starting "Mad Sao..." to 177 paragraph ending with "I died of starvation"
Group E: 177 mid page to "he could not sleep" to end of 1st paragraph on 178
Group F: 178 start of 2nd paragraph to end of piece on 179

(1)You are to come up with the theme(s) fo the story. In your section, find 3 quotes from the story that supports that theme and explain why the quotes support the theme you came up with.
(2) What was the author's purpose in writing this piece?
(3) What were we suppose to understand from the story?
(4) How does the story connect to our discussion of immigration?

Please do your HW on the same sheet of paper. We will share out tomorrow as a class.

Based on what was shared out in class today (think about the different voices and experiences each immigrant had), how does peoples' perception of the US match their own experience? Your answer needs to be a paragraph long (almost 1/2 page). Use the same paper you did your classwork on.
Be sure tomorrow to go straight to the Little Theatre to hear the Sojourn presentation.

Your Native American timeline is due tomorrow. It should be colorful, neat and have all the dates, summaries and explanations etc. 100 project points!

You will also have a multiple choice quiz on Native American History. 30 points.

Don't forget to ask your family when and why they came to the United States. You should also find out where (what countries) they came from. WRITE THIS DOWN!

Come up with a list (on binder paper) of the 15 most imporant events in Native American history that we have studied.

You should use the following:

"Columbus and the Indians" reading (Zinn)
Trail of Tears movie notes
"As Long As Grass Grows..." reading (Zinn)
Changing Cultural Identity of Native Americans reading
"In the White Man's Image" movie notes

Bring all of your notes and supplies to class for a work day tomorrow.
