Continue to "translate" the "Declaration of Sentiments". You will struggle with the words and meaning (look up words in dictionary). Think about the role women had politically, socially and economically during this time (review your notes). HW Wednesday, November 16th

In class, we went over how to write your intro and conclusion. You took notes from the board to guide you with writing your RD. Tomorrow, we will go to the computer lab - be sure to bring your drafts with you (one will be returned to you in class) AND bring your work on intro/conclusion. With your intro- be sure to have a grabber, some background info on topic and thesis. Your conclusion should answer the folloiwng questions:
(1) What are the negative aspects of groupthink in the play and society?
(2) What can people learn from these examples (from your paper)?
(3) What can be done to prevent the negative impact in the future?

YOu are basically answering the "So What" of your paper.

Today in class, you were given your writing assignment for the play and groupthink. Use your groupthink organzier to help guide you as you write your 1st body paragraph. You should also use your checklist to help you in your writing. The body paragraph needs to be typed, doubl espaced, 12 point font, New Times Roman. Due tuesday in beginning of class.

Your thesis should look like this:

Hw Monday, November 7th

In class today we learned about "Groupthink" and the 8 symptoms of it. We showed you a PPT to help you understand the concept. You were given a graphic organizer. For HW, complete 4 colums of the organizer: definition in your own words, examples from "The Crucible" and "real life" examples either from Oceana, current events or in history. We will go over the ideas again tomorrow in class.

Review Act III to help you with your HW tonight.
Complete the quotes assignment for Act III- remember to connect your quotes to themes and to the plot.
Complete the Character Poem:
Choose 1 character and write a peom that shows the true nature of their personality. Poem must include: 3 literary devices (you can do more), lots of imgery (show us, don' tell us), shifts (review TPCAAST) and a creative title.

Poem must be 10 lines. You also need to incldue a brief explanation that discusses how your poem represents your character.

(3) Choose 3 quotes and respond to them (again, review the overview).

We just started the play "The Crucible"- read to the botoom of page 32 where Rev, Hale enters.

Complete the Study Guide questions up to question #12. Pull out facts from the play to help answer the questions- no need to write in complete sentences- but your answers need to be fully detailed with lots of info from the play.

Rough draft of your position paper is due Friday, October 14th in the beginning of class.

HW Tuesday, October 11th

We went over in class how to do a "Position Paper". A senior exhibition POV was given as example and we went over different aspects of the POV (intro, evidence, explanation how evidence ties to argument).
For HW, you are to do a few things: (1) come up with your own defintion of the American dream you will use in your position paper, (2) answer to the EQ prompt (this is your thesis) and start on the outline of your "body"- you need to have 3 different claims, provide evidence/proof and explain how evidence/proof support your claim. Your last part of your outline is the conclusion- provide plan of action- what needs to happen to make the dream a reality or continue to happen if you argue the dream is a reality.
Outline is due tomorrow to your Humanities teacher 75 project points!!!!

We returned your RD conclusion/AWCP. Be sure to read and follow ALL the feedback on your rough drafts. We spent a good time in the computer lab where you continued to work on your group powerpoint. Powerpoint is due tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4th. You will need to "drop" your PPT into your teacher's inbox by the beginning of class. Now that you have an aresenal of information from your annotated articles, you need to organize your research. Based on your articles and summaries, organize your research into an outline format that covers all of the Background sub categories AND the immigrants' experience. Every fact needs to be fragments (don't write in complete sentences) and each fact needs to be textnoted. You are responsible for your individual outline and AWCP PLUS your group outline and AWCP ( you will "mesh" your outline and AWCP to create a master one for the group). This will be due on Thursday. 500 project points!!!

(2) Your printed articles should be annotated- written/highlighted ALL OVER
(3) TWO summaries (5-6 sentences) for each of your article- 1 summary write up per article

This assignment is worth 200 PROJECT POINTS! 40% of your grade in this class is project points so you want to do a great job on this assignment. Tomorrow in class you will have time to work with your group mates for the next phase of this BIG ASSIGNMENT.

Start/Finish reading Howard Zinn "As long as Grass Grows or Water Runs". Be sure to answer the questions thoroughly with lots of evidence from the reading.
Questions for the reading:
(1) Describe the different mass removals of Native American from land.
(2) Explain the issue around federal and state laws concerning Native Americans.
(3) Why might Andrew Jackson have a debt to the Cherokee Nation?
(4) Who wanted to move the Native Americans? What were their goals? Were all White people against the Native population?
(5) Respond to the final statement of the passage.
